The Ukrainian tragedy did not begin the day Russia decided to invade it. The Donbass is just the casus belli, and Kiev is to blame for much of it, but it has very ancient origins and is the logical consequence of the creeping encirclement of Russian territory that the United States decided to implement with its longa manus that goes by the name of NATO, and to corner Moscow by pushing Kiev to join the Atlantic Pact. The American plan was clear: to put Russia in a stranglehold by using the European institutions and NATO, which is not, as we are told, an institution of independent states with equal dignity and rights.
It is actually an association whose right to decide who and how to join it is exclusively in the hands of the United States. To confirm this, one need only read the provisions of Article 10 of NATO’s statute:
The parties may, by unanimous agreement, invite to join the Treaty any other European State which promotes the principles of the present Treaty and contributes to the security of the North Atlantic area. The State so invited may become a Party to the Treaty by depositing its instrument of accession with the Government of the United States of America. The Government of the United States of America shall inform each Party of the deposit of each instrument of accession.
There are no doubts. First of all, it should be pointed out that NATO does not join at the request of a state, but by ‘invitation’, so it is nonsense that the media are telling us that Ukraine has asked to join. It cannot do so by statute and its request to join NATO could be forwarded to the USA after a formal “invitation” from “all” members.
It should be stressed that leaving NATO is an autonomous act that is not subject to approval but must be “communicated to the US” not to the assembly of states. This confirms that it is the USA that ‘rules’ the alliance of the submissive.
The US, with the cowardly participation of Europe, has been playing dirty game since the dissolution of the Soviet Union and has systematically pushed for the former Warsaw Pact republics to join the EU first and at the same time manipulated the NATO members to “invite” them into the alliance by bringing a real threat along Russia’s borders.
All these planned operations in Washington were carried out in blatant violation of Article 2 of the treaty.
“The parties will contribute to the development of peaceful and friendly international relations by strengthening their free institutions, by fostering a better understanding of the principles on which these institutions are founded, and by promoting conditions of stability and well-being. They will endeavour to eliminate any conflict in their international economic policies and will encourage economic cooperation between any or all of the parties. Moscow therefore suffered from Western expansionism because the fall of the Berlin Wall and the sudden disintegration of the USSR was difficult to metabolize.
Since the end of 1999 Russia had begun to react politically and to make clear the line of no return.
However, it was clear. Moscow would never allow Ukraine to become a member of NATO and the European Union.
Romano Prodi in an interview with Corriere della Sera in 2015 was, in this sens, a prophet. He said clearly that “Hard or soft are not political concepts. You can be hard if it suits you, you can be soft if it suits you, you cannot be hard if all you get is damage. Isolating Russia is damage.
The problem is to have a clear idea of where you want to go. If you want Ukraine not to be a member of NATO and the European Union, but to be a friendly country of Europe and a bridge to Russia, you have to have a policy that is consistent with that.
If the goal is to bring Ukraine into NATO, then you create irreversible reactions. “
Heedless of this, the US has continued in its devastating geopolitics and the result is there for all to see.
The US ignored common sense and all the self-imposed rules with the NATO charter, played dirty and woke up the Russian bear.
And the West, which is inseparably linked to the US, instead of condemning the cheating, is starting to play dirty game too.
At the end, those who pay the consequences of US expansionism are the Ukrainians, the European and Russian citizens.
Sleepy Joe can be happy.
