The question that arises in the case of the Italian Embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan) is what use is it if events occur that are more than perplexing, they are alarming. Officials and diplomats, who are paid handsomely for their services, are expected to be professional, prompt and respectful of both Italian and foreign citizens.
The Embassy in Islamabad, if we were to consider it on the basis of the facts that we witnessed and which concern a Pakistani engineer selected by an Italian polytechnic for a doctorate, appears to be an institution useful only to itself.
It is almost impossible to reach it either by phone, email or certified mail.
An answering machine answers the phone and invites you to select key 1 or 2 depending on whether you want to speak to the consular office or the Embassy secretariat. The result is that after five minutes and a cost of over €12 (2.54 minutes) – you are forced to put down the receiver because no one answers.
Worse, if not serious even alarming, is the issue of contacts via email and PEC. The visa office does not answer and the PECs are not delivered by Aruba because the box is full (!) -.
Considering that a full mailbox contains on average a few hundred PECs, it can be assumed that the PEC is not regularly monitored by officials for some time.

After days of unfruitful attempts, it was decided to contact the Directorate General of Immigration of the MAE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
Unbelievable but true , within a few hours, the first secretary sent a note apologising for the delay, which he justified on the grounds of intense work (!), with which he communicated the date of the appointment for the engineer.
Everything resolved? Nothing at all. The person concerned goes to the Embassy on the appointed day but, incredibly, they do not allow him to enter because he does not have an “official” invitation.
An invitation that seems to be the norm but of which the First Secretary did not mention it in his note. And here we see another reason for poor and unjustifiable organisation. Why, instead of sending a simple note with the date, did the first secretary not send an official invitation as required? Furthermore, why did the office not send the list of people invited to the ‘gate’ and why did the security officer not contact the consular office to confirm the appointment?
These are questions that need to be answered by the Ministry. The facts show that in Islamabad there is a serious breach in the organisation of work and relations with citizens, whether they are Italian or foreign.
The matter, abundantly documented , at the time of publication of the article, i.e. after 70 days from its inception, does not seem to be concluded and therefore, considering that it does not seem to be an isolated case, the Minister’s Office and the Directorate-General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies have been asked to intervene.
In the meantime, the engineer waits and the doctorate runs. The question that arises spontaneously is: How is this possible??
It seems clear that is necessary and appropriate an immediate responses from the Head of the Cabinet of the Minister and the Director General for Immigration.
